Provence - Beaucaire, France
On the eastern edge of Provence, between Avignon and Arles on the Rhone, Beaucaire has an active pleasure boat canal, a 12th century castle where costumed bird trainers put on raptor shows daily, an outdoor market Sundays and Thursdays and an active artistic community. Visit the Roman Pont du Gard (15km) museum complex and take a picnic and swim suit. Kayak trips down the Gard also end here. The wild salt water marshes and long beaches of the Camargue (30 km) are home to the patron saint of the gypsies in the church at Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
