| Spanish | Steve | Thu Apr 17 | Thu Jun 05 | Spanish Beginning Level 3:00-4:15pm Contact Steve 832-655-0801 or spbrown@bauer.uh.edu for more info! 200$ for 8 classes Steve Brown took to Spanish easily and enthusiastically in high school, a long time ago, and stayed with it through college, graduate school, and work experience– first as editor of a prestigious Latin American history journal at the University of Arizona, and later as regional sales manager for South America for a college textbook publisher. He has taught graduate-level business courses in Spanish at the National University of Chile and traveled very extensively throughout Spain and Latin America, on both business and pleasure. As a senior in high school, he won a scholarship for a summer’s travel in Mexico for top performance on a standardized national Spanish exam. Having retired as Professor Emeritus of Marketing at the University of Houston in 2017, he is striving to attain the Spanish government’s highest certification of mastery (DELE C2) in Spanish as a second language in May 2025. |

Azores

The Azores are 9 small volcanic islands, out in the Atlantic Ocean, almost 1,000 miles west of Portugal, spread over 300 miles. They were first "discovered " by the Portuguese beginning in the 15th century and are now an autonomous region of that country as well as the westernmost outpost of the European Union. The islands were uninhabited when the Portuguese arrived, and developed a unique culture. Subtropical, with a diverse spectrum of plants they have an overall greenness that is dazzling to the eye. This presentation is based on an exploration I made with my husband, Bob Zimmerman, in October 2024. We visited 4 of the 9 islands. The program will attempt to give a glimpse of these magnificent but relatively unknown specks in the ocean.
