Bookshop.org is an online bookshop with a mission to financially support local, independent bookshops. We believe that bookshops are essential to a healthy culture. Sand, Souks, and Star Wars: A Journey Through Tunisia
with Charryl Berger
Saturday July 5th, 2025 5 pm

From the winding alleys of Tunis 's ancient Medina to the stillness of the Sahara under a sky full of stars, Tunisia surprised Charryl at every turn. She slept in 19th century granaries carved into desert hills, rode a camel into golden silence, and lunched in a cave with Berber hosts who made underground hospitality feel like high art. There were palm-filled oases, ruins that whispered of Roman empires, and even a few steps in galaxies far, far away—thank you, Tataouine. The journey ended in Sidi Bou Said, where the shutters are always blue, the bougainvillea always in bloom, and the sea view always makes you sigh and wish to stay on. Come for the ruins and the rug merchants—stay for the unexpected magic of Tunisia.
